Snow Removal

During a snow event, the Adrian Department of Public Works maintains all of Adrian’s 86.18 miles of streets. This includes State trunk lines, major streets and local streets. During a snowstorm, the State trunk lines and City major streets receive first priority and only after these streets are cleared, local streets are then cleared.

All of Adrian’s roads are broken down by priority for snow removal:

  • Priority 1: Major trunk lines/thoroughfares and multi-lane arterials: Includes M-52, M-34 and US-223BR.
  • Priority 2: Urban collector streets and special access routes: includes those streets around schools, hospitals and higher volume major streets.
  • Priority 3: Residential streets, commercial area side streets and cul-de-sacs.
  • Priority 4: Alleys, public parking areas and downtown on-street parking.
Click here to view the street priority map.

After a large storm, it can take several days to get the local streets cleared and your patience with our crews is much appreciated. It is helpful for the snowplows if you make every attempt to NOT park on the streets after a snow storm as this makes snow removal much quicker.

Reminder to snow removal contractors:
A person shall not remove, or cause to be removed, snow, ice or slush onto or across any street in a manner which obstructs the safety of the driver of a motor vehicle. A person shall not deposit, or cause to be deposited, snow, ice or slush on the traveled portion of any street. This includes private snow removal contractors (ordinance 74.9 c & d)
