In addition to the hiring of staff, the Human Resource Department is responsible for collective bargaining and contract administration for the City’s four bargaining units. These unions include TPOAM, Police Officers Labor Council (POLC), Police Officers Association of Michigan (POAM), and the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF).
Police Officers and Firefighters are selected from a list of eligible applicants who have successfully passed a written and oral exam. Testing is conducted when a vacancy occurs with no active eligibility list.
Resumes for all other full-time positions are welcome when a vacancy occurs and public notice is published in the local newspaper and our website.
Applications for seasonal positions are generally accepted after January 1 for work beginning April 1 through October 31.
