Important Changes to Your Water Billing Cycle

Recently, the City of Adrian transitioned to a single billing cycle for all water & sewer customers. All meters throughout the City will be read between the 7th – 10th of the month & bills will be generated on or around the 17th of each month moving forward. Below is a list of frequently asked questions. If you do not find the answer you are looking for, please don't hesitate to call our offices or submit your questions online.

Frequently Asked Questions: Changes to Water Billing Cycle

How do I know if I am a Cycle 1 or Cycle 3 customer currently?
If your 12-digit account number begins with 01 or 03, you are currently in Cycle 1 or 3 and your billing cycle will be affected by this change. Customers with account numbers beginning with 02 will not see any changes. Example account number: 0123-45678-91-0
Why is my billing cycle changing?
This change in your billing cycle is part of our efforts to improve our billing process and provide better service to our customers. Historically, water meters were read door to door. Thanks to a newly installed meter reading system, we are now able to gather reads remotely. This updated technology also allows us to notify customers of potential issues (such as leaks or high usage) in a timelier manner, which can help save our customers money. By combining this new software and having all water & sewer customers on the same billing cycle, our staff can be more efficient in helping customers.
Will my water & sewer bill be prorated in July?
Yes, your bill will be prorated for the amount of days between your last meter read and the new meter read.
Will my payment due date change?
Yes, your new due date will be on or around the 5th of each month.
When will my bill go out?
Beginning in July, your bill will be generated on or around the 17th of each month.
When will my meter be read?
Your meter will be read between the 7th – 10th of each month.
How will this affect my automatic payment schedule?
If you are already enrolled in auto-pay, you do not need to make any changes. Your payment will be processed as usual on your new due date. To sign up for auto-pay or email billing click here.
Will my billing cycle change every month or just this one time?
Just this one time.
Will my account number or billing address change?
No, there will be no changes to your account number or billing address.
Can I still pay my bill online?
Absolutely! Payments can be made online by clicking the left navigation link named: Online Payment & Bill Search.
How can I update/sign up for auto-pay and/or email billing?
Click this link for Auto-Pay and eBill Authorization or you can always find it in the future on the left navigation tab of the Utilities Department page.
Will my billing amount change with the new billing cycle?
Possibly. If you are one of the customers currently in Cycle 1 your meter reading cycle for the bill that will be generated on July 17th will be shorter than usual, therefore resulting in a lower monthly ready to serve charge, which is based on meter size. If you are one of the customers currently in Cycle 3, you will not receive a bill on 7/5, only on 7/17. Therefore, your billing cycle will be 10 days longer. Come August 2023, your bill will return to normal as you will be back on a full 30-31 day meter reading cycle.
What happens if I have a past due balance from my old billing cycle?
For those who have a past due balance from June, that balance will transfer forward onto your July bill. If you are currently in shut off status, please visit our Shut Off Assistance page for a full list of resources.
