Emergency Medical Service

Adrian Fire Department has been providing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for many years. Firefighters are cross trained in Fire and EMS functions.

Currently 20 of our firefighters are licensed Paramedics.

In 1994 we upgraded to Limited Advanced Life Support (LALS). This upgrade in our level of service allowed the firefighters to initiate advanced care on the scene before an ambulance provider arrives.
Our goal to provide Advanced Life Support was achieved in July of 2013. The department is licensed by the State of Michigan to provide full Advanced Life Support Services transport services and began providing primary ambulance transport services of all city residents who call 911 with a medical emergency to the hospital starting in January 2019.

We respond to approximately 4,100 EMS calls per year. That’s approximately 74% of our call volume.

Adrian Fire Department is committed to delivering high quality pre-hospital care to the citizens and visitors of the city. Our Firefighters obtain many hours of training each year to stay current with EMS principles and practices which are mandated by state licensing laws.
