The Building Inspection department helps to insure public health and safety as well as provides a safeguard for quality construction of residential and commercial structures in the city.
The building code division issues building permits for new construction and alterations to the interior and exterior of structures. It also reviews site plans and conducts occupancy inspections for new and existing buildings. Zoning enforcement is also conducted through this division of the department. Typical zoning code violations include: derelict and unlicensed autos, debris and garbage accumulation, repairs by unlicensed contractors.
Permits are also issued for electrical, mechanical and plumbing work. Permit applications are available at the Inspection Department, 3rd floor of Adrian City Hall. The Building department is available Monday-Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm. The Building, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing Inspectors are available on the following schedule:
