DARA - Downtown Adrian Social District

Public Act 124 of 2020 was signed into law on July 1, 2020, enabling legislation that allows Michigan municipalities to establish Social Districts that allow for "common areas" where two or more contiguous licenses establishments (bars, distilleries, breweries, restaurants, and tasting rooms) can sell alcoholic beverages in special cups to be taken into that area for consumption.

The City of Adrian Social District and maintenance plan was established by the Adrian City Commission on August 3, 2020.  The Commission approved the naming of the established City of Adrian Social District in the Downtown Area as the "Downtown Adrian Refreshment Area" on August 17, 2020.

The DARA operates year round, seven days a week.  The common areas are open from noon until 10:00pm Sunday - Thursday, and 11:00pm Friday and Saturday.  After those times, Social District beverages cannot be sold by participating establishments nor possessed and consumed in the common area.  Rather, after 10:00pm, consumption of alcoholic beverages must be contained within the license holders' service area.

The Downtown Adrian Refreshment Area encompasses the southern side of Front Street, from Winter Street to Broad Street, the western side of Broad Street, from Front Street to Church Street, the northern side of Church Street from Broad Street to Maumee Street, and both sides of Maumee Street, from Church Street to Winter Street.  The district is depicted in the boundary map.
