Match on Main COVID Recovery Program

The City of Adrian is very pleased to announce the successful application to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) “Match on Main” COVID Recovery program.  This small business grant program, designed for downtown businesses, provides a maximum grant amount of $50,000 per awarded community.  Mayor Angela Sword Heath said “Adrian is very fortunate and blessed to have 22 downtown businesses receiving the Match on Main grant money. We had the third highest number of businesses out of all the communities that received the grant money. This shows how dedicated our downtown businesses are to maintaining a vibrant downtown with economic growth during this difficult time. Only 22 communities were selected for the grant in Michigan and to be chosen as one of those communities is a real honor! #AdrianStrong”

Over 300 communities were eligible to apply, and the competition was fierce; just over 7% of the eligible communities are receiving grant funds for their downtown businesses.  A complete list of Adrian’s winning businesses is at the end of this announcement.  Each business will receive a grant of $2,272.00, which can be used for any COVID related expenses.  All businesses completed a worksheet which demonstrated a loss in income related to the virus, and indicated the number of jobs that the grant would help to save.  In addition, businesses provided responses to questions provided by the MEDC as well as local questions.  Businesses that met both the state and local qualifications were eligible for funding.

Among the businesses funded was Sauce Italian Grill, where owner David Horstman had this to say about the grant, “A game changer for our community!“

Another local business that received funding was Advantage Visuals.  Owner Drake Lolley proposed helping other local businesses if he was funded and upon hearing of the successful application said “This grant will allow us to produce low-cost videos for businesses in our community so that they can promote themselves effectively as they reopen.”
